It feels like forever since I posted anything on there! The last few months have been absolutely crazy for me at work, and the blog had to take a backseat while I dealt with my full time job. But now that things have calmed down a little bit, I can go back to creating content, which makes me really happy!
And so, for my first post back after a while, I’ve decided to share what’s in my summer makeup bag this year. I have really tried to scale back my makeup routine this summer to create a minimalist makeup bag. A skin base, a little eye makeup, and I’m ready to go!
For the past few weeks, I have been using the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream as my foundation. I didn’t struggle to find my shade at all, I have really fair skin and so I picked up the shade Fair which matches me perfectly. I’m quite late to the party with this CC Cream, but I don’t regret giving it a chance! Firstly, I love that there’s an SPF 50 built into the formula. I’m yet to find an eco-friendly SPF that works well under foundation (recommendations welcome), and this one doesn’t make the foundation feel heavy or peels off when I apply it which is nice. A little goes a very long way with this product, I usually need about half a pump to cover my whole face because it’s a full coverage foundation, which is amazing since it’s not the cheapest of products. It blends in quickly and easily, and it makes your skin look super natural and glowy.
Once I’ve blended in the CC Cream, I apply my Fast Base concealer from Revolution on any redness that’s leftover and that the foundation hasn’t covered up, usually on the sides of my nose, the top of my cheeks, my chin and finally under my eyes. I have used Revolution for a long time now, and I’m still impressed by the quality of their products when their prices are so affordable! This concealer is one of my favourites, it blends in really easily, doesn’t crease, and doesn’t budge all day long.
Finally, I apply the Revolution Matte Base translucent powder to my chin, my forehead, my nose and under my eyes to fix the concealer in place. I’ve been a big lover of translucent powders over coloured powders for a long time, I just think it makes your makeup look so much more natural and less cakey. I really like this powder because it feels quite light on the skin and not drying at all, which I have found can be a problem with translucent matte powders.Â
What I love about my face makeup routine at the moment is that it really suits both hot and cool summer days. This face makeup routine was a godsend when we had those few hot days in June, nothing budged, even under the face mask and I do a lot of talking in my job!
When it comes to eyes, I’m keeping it super simple with a neutral eyeshadow from my favourite Tarte palette: Toasted, and a little mascara, the Volume mascara by MUA.
For eyeshadow, I usually gravitate naturally towards the shades Jetsetter and Smarty Pants. I think they are beautiful neutral shades that can be worn in any season, but for some reason I think summer’s a really good time to be wearing them! I’m not a big pinks/pastel colours fan, so I always tend to wear similar colours all year long anyway, but I try to wear mattes and neutrals in summer, it suits the season more in my opinion. I just apply them all over the lid with a fluffy brush, and job done! They’re really easy to apply and blend, although they are a little on the powdery side so I always make sure to dust the brush off a little before taking it to the lid. I then use a smaller brush to apply the colour on my lower lash line.
I then curl my lashes and apply mascara. I’ve really been enjoying using the Volume MUA mascara! It definitely won’t be a mascara for everybody, but for what I want in the summer, it’s really perfect for me. It’s really easy to apply, the brush comes out a little bit on the drier side which means that there’s no risk of the lashes being all caked up together which I absolutely hate! It holds the curled lashes nicely and gives just the right amount of volume. I apply it both on my top and bottom lashes, wait for it to dry, and voilà ! All done!

Also, I love Tarte’s eyeshadow formula, even if their palettes are the most original or unique, I do quite like the formula. I wore a Tarte palette today actually! I’m such a fan of more minimal makeup at the moment! CC and BB creams are my favorite; they feel so much nicer on the skin than heavy foundation. Love that eyeshadow palette too x
