Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons! I know it’s controversial, but I’m not a big fan of the summer time… I love being cosy, Halloween, Christmas, the cold, give me December over July anytime! There’s always lots to do in my local area, so if you live near Leicestershire, this is what I will be doing in my county this autumn/winter!
Here’s my autumn/winter to-do list in Leicestershire!
Diwali Lights Switch-On
Since I moved to Leicester, I have never missed the Diwali Lights Switch-On which happens in October every year. Diwali celebrations in Leicester are the biggest outside of India, and it shows! Lots of music and dance performances, good food… I believe that some events will be virtual again this year due to Covid, but it’s so good to be back to some kind of physical event!
Pumpkin picking
I am so excited about going pumpkin picking! I’ve had to give it a miss the past couple of years, but I’m really looking forward to doing it this year. I think we’re going to pop to Cattows Farm’s Halloween Farm soon to pick a couple of pumpkins to decorate our front porch. And of course, another couple to make delicious pumpkin-inspired recipes!
Bonfire Night in Abbey Park
Bonfire Night in Abbey Park is one of my favourite nights of the year! I absolutely love going to see the fireworks with friends, warm up by the burning wood and eat lots of good food. There’s always local artists playing music and performing on the big stage, the fireworks are magnificent… It’s such a good event all round! We were gutted not to have been able to see it last year due to Covid restrictions, so we are really looking forward to going back this year!

Morning walks in Leicestershire parks & green spaces
What better than to walk along a park on a frosty morning, hearing the leaves crack under your shoes and breathing the cold air! We have so many amazing green spaces and places to see in Leicestershire: Bradgate Park, Watermead Country Park, Belvoir Castle… They’re wonderful in the summer and even prettier in the winter! I don’t live far from any of them and going on a mini hike in the park is one of my absolute favourite things to do!
Enjoying a hot drink on Queen’s Road
Queen’s Road, and Clarendon Park more generally, holds a really special place in my heart: it’s the first street I ever went to when I move to Leicester, and it’s packed with so many fabulous cafes and shops! Every year in autrumn/winter, I love going to the independent cafes like Coffee Ethic, Northern Cobbler and more recently, Port and Nata to enjoy a hot drink and a pastry in the cold winter! This is definitely one of my self-care acts I look forward to it every year.
What about you, what does your local to-do list looks like this autumn/winter?
Em ♥

Sounds like a wonderful to do list – I need to look for similar things to do where I am over the next few months. A firework display is definitely on the agenda!
lovely — though I think these are things you can do anywhere. for example, enjoying hot drinks & pumpkin picking are on my to-do list too in my little city in the southern part of the USA.
Your Bonfire Night plans sound so exciting, and I love this to-do list for your Autumn activities. Great post, thanks for sharing x
I’m totally with you on autumn and winter! They’re my favorite seasons as well. I absolutely abhor summer and don’t prefer spring much either – the cool seasons are 100% my jam! This bucket list sounds like a blast! I hope you enjoy everything you do 🙂
What a magical place. I still need to make it to the uk. My web developer lives there in Birmingham and has been egging me on for a decade now. Thanks for sharing these beautiful autumn photos. Fall is my favorite season of the year, by far.
This sounds like so much fun. I love watching fireworks with friends and family. I always get amazed and even better with good food. I absolutely love your list. You have such interesting places and activities. This was a great read.
I went to Leicester for Uni and loved the place. I agree it is a fun place to spend time.
Looks as if you have several fun activities planned! Thanks for sharing.
I’m the same as you – not a fan of summer! Bonfire Night in Abbey Park looks amazing, I hope you have fun x
